The Korat Cat Quick Guide
The main characteristic to distinguish is its beautiful silvery coat that reflects light in a wonderful way. The shape of his face seems to resemble that of a heart and the striking green eyes do the rest. There is nothing in this lovely creature that does not make you want to have one of your own.
These wonderful cats are not only worshipped in the western they are treated as lucky charms in Thailand. The history of such a breed is practically as ancient as the discovery of America. The main place of origin is Thailand as well and the lineage of the breed can be easily tracked down there.
At the end of the 19th century this breed was still not allowed in competitions and it took the breed some more years to be finally taken as another cat breed to be considered a standard.
The colour of his coat makes one think of the colours of a regular Siamese cat, this is to some extent true since part of those genes run through his blood. However, the distinction is made when it comes to the eyes. They were taken to America during the 20th century and they never left the country again, due to their big success.
The temperament of this breed is quite recognisable, similar to all cats they are intelligent, curious and they love to investigate and to look around for objects and things that move or catch their attention. They are particularly interested in interacting with other members of the family, and by family the idea of other cats is meant. They are not really outgoing when it comes to visitors to the house and they do not enjoy being bothered with kisses and hugs, specially when they are sleeping, this may turn them particularly moody when they wake up.
Though they may seem rather fragile due to their look, they are agile and really muscular. Their particular aspect makes them look really unique and their silvery coat even more. Their physical condition is absolutely great and they will have no problems as regards exercise or moving all day long. Differently from other cats the Korat breed is an active breed, with all that it takes of course.
The colour of the coat, though unique or rare, has a definite purpose. Their Siamese heritage makes the coat shiny, and smooth and the hair is not long. Shadings or spots will immediately disqualify your kitten in competitions, and if the colour is not completely unified you will not get your cat accepted either.
As regards health Korat Cats are really something special. As most cats, they may suffer from kidney or liver products due to an incorrect feeding. For this reason it is important to be able to give your cat different types of meals, a balanced diet will not only prevent these problems, but it will also give your cat a longer and healthier life.
