Japanese Bobtail Information
The historical records say that the first Japanese Bobtail was introduced in North America in 1908 but it was not until 1968 that it was formally imported from Japan and started to be bred. In 1976 the breed gained championship status in the USA.
The Japanese Bobtail is a medium sized cat with a strong musculature and firm bone structure. His prominent cheekbones emphasize their typical oval blue eyes that give them such an Oriental appearance.
They have long and slim legs that are harmoniously balanced with the whole body composition. Their coats are soft and silky, and come in a wide variety of colors. However, the most commonly seen is tricolor or also called Mi-Ke, which means three-furred in Japanese; it is white with red and black patches. The bicolor variety is also quite frequent. But of course, their curved tail is the most defining characteristic. The tail is tightly curved and kinked, and it looks pompous as its hair is longer than the rest of the body. The tail is what makes this breed real unique.
The Japanese Bobtails cats are really lively and energetic. They love shearing active games with the owner. They are certainly interactive and also very affectionate. In fact, they are just one step far from being clingy. They adore being around the owner activities and according to what some Japanese Bobtail fanciers describe, they are very talkative and expressive as they have a wide range of tones. They are extremely intelligent and can also be rather stubborn when an idea has installed into their head. They are agile and great jumpers, so if you want to keep cupboards or sofas safe, you must get them a cat tree or a scratching post.
