Balinese Cat Guide

The origins of this breed start in the 40s as a longhaired mutation of a Siamese litter. That is why they look alike both in structure and character to other Oriental cat families such as Siamese and Javanese. They where recognised as an official breed in 1950s and gained their championship status in 1961.

Balinese cats are found in four different colors: seal, blue, chocolate and lilac. They are pointed cats, which mean that legs, face and tail are darker than the rest of the body. The body color tends to get darker as they grow up. Under their bright long hair, they have a hard musculature and can be really heavy. Their eyes feature is typically Oriental and the deeper blue they are, the better. And they have a distinguished tail that looks like an elegant plume when it is combed.

As they are lively cats, they are not recommendable for people with moving problems; they often get underfoot and this can be a big problem. They love people and are constantly following all family members. And in spite of their affection demanding character, they are lap cats too. They will love having a nap on your knees while you watch TV.  They will probably need a toy to play around the house; if you do not provide them a plaything, they will find one by themselves.

Balinese cats are very curious and so they like having their toys under things, they can spend all day trying to reach the objective! They also enjoy squeezing and getting into holes, so you have to be careful of this ability, for example with ventilation ducts.  When they meow they seem to be talking and most Balinese owners say that they are incredibly communicative.
