The American Bobtail cat appeared for the first time in an Indian reservation in the Southwest U.S. in the late 60s. There, it was found a tabby Bobtail kitten by a couple that raised him and bred him to a long tale female. With that first litter, this Breed started to develop.
The American Bobtails have a rough appearance because despite they are not wild cats, they were naturally found in the wild. They conserve a constant expression of alertness and a great ability to climb that reminds a history of survival. However, they are excellent family companions as they get along well with other pets and children. They are known for their dog-like character and their loyal and devotion for the owner. Some people even say that Bobtail cats behave as a Golden Retrievers do with his family.
The American Bobtail cat is a medium to large sized cat. Males are considerably bigger than females. He has a real appearance of power as his musculature is certainly impressive. His name comes from his very short tail. Bobtails come in all different colours and patterns, but spots are no longer accepted since it became an official Breed. To keep it groomed, you only need minimum requirements, such as a weekly brushing and regular nail trimming.
If you love little kittens, this is an ideal Breed for you because Bobtails are slow to mature and they retain their kittenish appearance for almost the first three years.
They are lovely with the family and they are extremely intelligent too. They easily adapt to any environment and they are great travellers if they get used to carriers or crates when they are young. They are also well- behaved and sensitive with distress and old people. They have an exceptional disposition and good manners when they are in touch with children too.
So if you are looking forward to have a robust and wild looking pet, but in the same time you want a adoring kind friend, an American Bobtail is a perfect choice for you. He will bring fun, love and pleasure to all family members.
