Abyssinian Cats Profile

Abyssinian (tenderly called Abys) will bring such a joy to all family members as they adore being in contact with humans. You will never be home alone with an Abyssinian cat! They always want to know what the owner is doing and they always feel like helping. They are probably the most loyal cat breed and if you get an Aby you will see how much a cat can understand a person.

The Abys have an Egyptian appearance but originally they are supposed to be from the coasts of the Indian Ocean and certain areas of Southeast Asia. As it is well known, the breed was refined in England. The introduction of the Aby in Britain is a consequence of colonists and merchants stopping in India. During 1900 and 1930 this breed was brought in to North America.

The Abys physical development is medium sized but strong muscular structure. Their legs are slim and long and they give the impression that the cat is standing on tiptoe. The Abys are very balanced cats, fine boned and have a very graceful facade. The eyes can be either green or gold and the coat colors that the standard describes are ruddy (burnt-sienna), red, blue and fawn. Color in the Abys is a very important point and must be warm and bright.

What distinguish Abys from other cats is that they are very lively, active and full of life and also their affection to the owner. So if you are planning to get one, you must be prepared with lots of interactive games to play with your Aby.

If you are an energetic and brisk person and you love vigorous activities, then an Abyssinian cat is the perfect pet for you. If you like your cat being on your lap all evening, the Aby may not be the proper cat. The Aby will love to participate in your activities as they are very affectionate and most of all, they are exceptionally intelligent cats.
